The ILÀ (line) Tote is a work of art that represents the interconnectedness of humans and the beauty of unity in diversity. The work promotes the thought that we can still coexist peacefully despite our differences in race, gender, age, culture, ideologies and beliefs.
The tote features a neutral colour of rich Aso-Oke (a sustainable handwoven cotton fabric linked to the Yoruba people of the South-Western part of Nigeria), as a blank canvass where other vibrant colours of Aso-Oke strips rest upon. These lines represent people we meet and the difference in lengths of these lines indicate the span of different relationships in life, which will always vary.
Each piece of this handcrafted work is unique because no two patterns are exactly the same, the arrangements will always differ. This makes the ILÀ Tote even more special.
